High Fat, Salt and Sugar Update: Low/No Alcohol and On-Pack Promotions

Guidance now released

Alcoholic beverages above 1.2% ABV are outside the scope of HFSS rules. However, low- and no-alcohol products may be caught if they contain added sugar and do not meet the definition of an ‘alcohol substitute drink’.

If caught, these products will be subject to the product placement restrictions, multibuy restrictions, TV advertising restrictions and online advertising prohibition.

Members should also note that the transition period for stock produced before October 2025 with non-removable volume price promotions on packaging ends on 30 September 2026. After this date, any such on-pack promotions must be entirely defaced, stickered over or removed from shelves.
