From 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) begins to apply, including new requirements relating to PFAS in food-contact packaging, substances of concern and conformity assessment, including EU Declarations of Conformity.
The Regulation will affect businesses placing packaging and packaged goods on the EU market, including UK wine and spirit businesses exporting to the EU. Relevant product-related requirements are also expected to apply in Northern Ireland.
Further PPWR requirements, including recyclability, recycled content and harmonised recyclability labelling, will be phased in over the coming years.
