VI-1 Hub

1 January 2021 marks the end of the UK’s transition period, signalling the UK’s exit from the European Single Market and Customs Union. From this date all wine exported from the UK to the EU will require an import certificate (VI-1). Meanwhile, the UK will be rolling over EU rules, meaning that imports from the EU would require a VI-1 certificate.

Since the UK’s vote to leave the EU the WSTA has lobbied tirelessly to end the requirement for VI-1s on wine imports into the UK. Whilst the recent decision to delay their implementation until 1 July 2021 is welcome, postponement is only a short-term solution.
