Members are aware that the use of online age verification is growing when purchasing age restricted goods but are unaware of the options available to them on the equipment that can verify the ages of customers to the standard required by licensing authorities.

Meanwhile Digital ID is becoming increasingly used, both in-store and on-line when purchasing age restricted goods. Although digital proof of age is not yet accepted for purchases of alcohol this is being increasingly discussed by those in the age verification providers industry, the alcohol industry and the Home Office.

The Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) are currently working to develop UK Standards for the physical presentation of digital proof of age. With all the interest in this area, it may not be long until there is talk about updating current proof of age requirements when purchasing alcohol. Although we have no firm confirmation that this will happen, we are encouraging members to bring themselves up-to-speed with the latest technologies by taking part in an online Age Verification showcase provided by members of the Age Verification Providers Association on 30 September 10-12.

Purpose 

• To inform members on the different age verification technology options available to them when presented with digital proof of age in stores
• To inform members on the different age verification technology options available to them when selling age restricted goods on-line
• To provide private contact details for each provider to enable members to discuss specific business needs and budgets
• The session will start with an Introduction from Iain Corby, Executive Director of The Age Verification Providers Association. We will then have presentations from various AVPA members, lasting approximately 20 minutes each. Contact details for each AVPA member will be provided so that WSTA members can make direct contact after the showcase.
