DEFRA have confirmed that from 19 October this year the ‘Not for EU’ labelling rules, when moving wines or spirits from GB to NI via the Northern Ireland retail movement scheme (Green lane), are changing.
Labelling shrink wrapped pallets as ‘not for EU’ will not be compliant. From 19 October individual cases will need to contain the ‘ not for EU’ statement.
Members need to remember that NIRMS is not the only option. For mixed goods movements it is likely to be the best option but for movements of wines or spirits alone it may not be.
To understand the customs and regulatory options when moving wine and spirits from Great Britain to Northern Ireland see our guide here. This compares the UKIMS, NIRMS and Red Lane options and outlines their requirements, benefits and when each could be used. A guide to help members choose the right route and understand labelling and paperwork requirements for each.
