Our affinity with Italy’s viticultural pioneers is fast anchored, like the most vigorous of vines.
What was different back in 1995? My hair was a shade darker as I drove my Alfa 156 through Soave, seeking to break the Rubicon that was giving Italy a bad name. Surely the town’s famous castle, in all its glory, was hiding one more pearl?
Well, I found Stefano Inama’s Soave Classico. Hellbent on uprooting his Garganega for Sauvignon, we reached a compromise that might seem obvious now but wasn’t in the nebulous 1990s: plant both. After all, any hard-won business relationship requires a keen eye for potential.
Our philosophy has always been to make that first step for our customers. Will new estates like Esole, Bottazzi, Dorgali and San Valentino be tomorrow’s heroes?
