Three Decades of Germany

Few other countries have made such fundamental strides in fine wine terms as Germany has in the past decades. The winemakers and estates represented here have been at the forefront of this change and helped shaped the new German fine wine landscape. As Germany finally re-enters the global fine wine market as a fully-fledged player, this tasting aims to illustrate the singularity of German regions, sites and wine styles. The wines shown will be from single vineyards – one from each estate – across vintages from the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s that will allow tasters to compare and contrast these wines side by side.
The sit-down tasting will be led by German wine expert Dr Ulrich Sautter and Anne Krebiehl MW. We will discuss sites, grape varieties, philosophies and changing attitudes. Hailing from the Saar, Nahe, Rheingau, Baden, Pfalz and Franken, some wines will be poured from magnum, others are rare auction wines – all are from stellar estates. While we all know that age has nothing on fine Riesling – whether dry or sweet – we are happy to announce that Pinot Noir aka Spätburgunder will also feature.
