Many of our members sell wine and spirit products via the internet or mail order. Distance retailing continues to grow, as consumers embrace this way of shopping. Businesses selling their products remotely face a range of new and different issues. Consumer Protection law includes specific requirements about the information to be given to consumers at different stages of the transaction provides a specific cooling-off period.

The licensing requirements for on-line sales are currently under scrutiny, particularly in relation to the age verification methods used by on-line retailers to ensure that under-18s are not able to buy alcohol. Age verification at delivery is also under consideration and we are working with retailers n government to develop best practice in this area.
