Environment Working Group

The Environment Working Group aims to keep members abreast of UK policy initiatives, and give feedback to inform policy decision making, share best practice from across the industry, and act as a hub for members to promote sustainable growth.

Waste packaging is a particular concern to industry, consumers and governments. Over the last decade our sector has made enormous strides to reduce both packaging and carbon dioxide equivalent emissions – most notably by designing and introducing lightweight bottles, improving recycling and reducing waste, investing in generating renewable energy, and implementing innovative transportation techniques. However, we accept more can be done to improve circularity of waste packaging and increase reuse.

The group is particularly focused on the Collection and Packaging Reforms, including Extended Producer Responsibility, Deposit Return Schemes, Simpler Recycling, and Packaging Recovery Note reform.
